Review from Jeff Tunnell, CEO, The Great Music Experiment
Monday, July 09, 2007Like a gattling gun, the Athiarchists come at you and never let up. Their patented "punch you in the gut until you fall down" set never pauses for banal between songs chitty chat bullshit, it just keeps coming until you think you can't take any more. If they are the first band on, the only thing they do is yell, "we are going to open this place like it's never been opened before!" as they start their first song. I pity the poor bands coming on after they Athiarchists, they are where the term "a tough act to follow" came from.
Shouting in unison, "Life, Freedom, Rights, Beliefs" Aaron Tunnell and Danno Lemm launch into first line of the song of the same name. In rapid fire succession comes, Sheep, Vent, Deathwish, Total Disregard for Disrespect, and on and on. All original songs written by Aaron and Danno, except for an occasional Propain cover or their hilarious metal rendition of TNT by AC/DC.
A review of the Athiarchists can't be written without pointing out their theme song of the same name. The Athiarchist is for "all you church hopping, Bush loving BITCHES", and is the song that will make them famous. In this song, Aaron explores being the President of the United States of Fucked Up America, then later becomes God, Your God, only to find that you can't believe in anything, but what's in front of you. Don't bother searching for answers... there aren't any.
So, "don't be another part of the herd". Get off your ass and get out and support these guys. They are playing less and less in Eugene, preferring the larger regional venues in Portland, Fresno, Phoenix, and Valeho. Catch them while you can, and before the ticket prices go up. - Jeff Tunnell, CEO, The Great Music Experiment
